Clay Care Session

Expressive Art Therapy

Clay Care sessions act as a combination of a ceramics lesson and an open and safe space to share. Judy is the facilitator and the clay invokes a playful, transformative, and grounding experience. Wheel-throwing or hand-building are available to try, the classes are “molded” to accommodate desired outcomes.

How sessions typically progress:

Initiate with a grounding and check in. Then Judy will guide a hand-building and/or wheel-throwing demo. After the demo, she is your assistant and available for support.

Potential outcomes:

  • Process emotions

  • Clarify or articulate dreams and ambitions

  • Create a sense of grounding and ease

  • Engage in the creative process

  • Ignite Playfulness

  • Learn something new

  • Experience self empowerment

The session will include clay that can be finished and fired, if desired. Participants will arrange to meet at her studio space.

Sessions are great for youth. Sessions last for 1.45 hours for first time participants, for continued sessions the timing moves to 1.5 hour sessions to allow time for check ins, art making, and clean up.

Located in West Oakland (Adeline and Grand Ave). The studio is wheelchair accessible. The space has a warehouse feel- tall ceilings and a garage door that open on warm days. There are other craftspeople and artists working in adjacent studios. There is also a bathroom and a gated parking space for one car.

Cost: $120 per session

Sliding scale pricing may be available for folks experiencing economic hardship, youth, or those seeking continued support (based off of availability).
