Judy is the facilitator and the clay invokes a playful, transformative, and grounding experience. Wheel-throwing or hand-building are available to try, the classes are “molded” to accommodate desired outcomes. How sessions typically progress: Initiate with a grounding and check in. Then Judy will guide a hand-building and/or wheel-throwing demo. After the demo, she is your assistant and available for support. I am also a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in my work with youth and young adults using art-based practices. I offer private ceramics sessions, therapy services, attend occasional markets, and make custom work. I enjoy creating pieces that help ground and connect us to ourselves, each other, plants, and foods. In my therapy practice, I welcome folks from all ages, genders, orientations, ethnicities, and abilities. I graduated with my masters in Counseling Psychology from CSU East Bay. I have done many specialized trainings, such as: working with youth, somatic experiencing, trauma and addiction, and grief. I am trained in working with the nervous system and value ritual and ceremony. I see myself as a facilitator to growth and change while holding nonjudgemental space. I am encouraging, light hearted, intentional, and honest. I follow a compass of ethics, integrity, and practice healthy boundary making. These classes make for great team building and/or youth! The session takes place at a studio space in West Oakland, which is a part of a working artist community. The space has a warehouse feel- tall ceilings, and roll up wall, ample space to create with lots of air flow. The session will include clay that will be finished and fired in the kiln. You will likely end up with two or more pieces! You get to pick the glaze color. Finished ceramics will be ready for pick up about 3 weeks after the session.
